Line Couplings

Line Couplings 1

Layer(s): SPRNK2, SPRKDAT1, INTERFERENCE, SPRKDAT2, SPRKDATA

Shortcut: LC

Associated: Main Couplings

Ribbon: Insert Panel

Line Couplings 2

Insert one or more couplings on each of multiple branch lines. Couplings are inserted on temporary guide lines that cross the lines to be coupled. Often used for pipes of stock lengths such as, 21’ and 25’ / 6-meter and 7-meter lengths.

Line Couplings 3

Coupling Type specifies from the pull-down list. The coupling images w/Stop add Stop signs which are used in grids to prevent AutoList from listing a loop over itself. See the section on LISTING for clarification.

Draw Coupling Guide places a guide line at selected location.

Locate Coupling Guide Line moves selected line to be specified distance from object selected (such as another guide line).

Offset Line works like the AutoCAD OFFSET command to quickly insert any number of guide lines at a specified distance, such as 21’.

Guide Line Color lets user choose the color of the guide lines.

Slope Settings adjusts distance between guide lines to account for specified slope.

This example shows three 1 ½” branch lines ready for grooved couplings.

Line Couplings 4

Start the Line Couplings command and select Grooved Coupling Type. Pick Draw Coupling Guide Line and draw a line across the pipes where the couplings will be inserted. Use Locate Coupling Guide Line to precisely position the guideline.

Line Couplings 5

You can draw as many guidelines as you like, using Offset Line as a tool to offset them at the desired distance (21’, etc).

You will be prompted to pick the Guide Line(s). Do so.

Press Enter.

Line Couplings 6

The couplings are inserted and the pipe lengths are changed.

Tip - It is not necessary to use the Draw Line and Locate Line commands in this dialog box. You can draw the line and locate it any way you want (such as offset) before starting this command. The line must be in the INTERFERENCE layer.

For sloping lines, set the Rise and Run of the line.

Line Couplings 7

Tip - You do not have to specify the slope in inches per foot, as implied. If the line rises 3 feet over 50 feet, you can enter the Rise as 36 (or 3’) and the Run as 50’.
