Cap and Hang

Layer(s): HANGERS, SPRNK2, SPRKDAT[A,1,2]
Associated: Setup
Install a pipe nipple, cap, hanger and pipe size at the same time. If a hanger hasn’t yet been inserted during this drawing session, the Hanger Setup dialog box will appear first. Set up the hanger and press OK. After that the Cap and Hang command will begin, or click on Cap and Hang to start it.

There are two methods to place the cap and add the piping out to that cap.
To Steel: Select a piece of steel or structural member you want to hang from. This can be a LINE in any layer. The program will draw a pipe from the head you select to a Distance Past Steel.
Specified Distance: The program will draw a pipe that starts at the head you select and has the total length you specify in the Distance field.
Select whether you want to extend/add a cap to Lines, Mains or Both. This allows you to more quickly select if you are picking several pipes with a window.
Shrink Text on Cap Pipe will make the dimensions on the pipe extension smaller, to help reduce drawing clutter.
Example
Here are 2 lines that need support from a nearby joist.

Start the Cap and Hang command, and set the box up as shown above.
To Steel is selected, and the pipe will be extended 6” beyond the joist.
Press OK.
You will be prompted to pick the steel to be hung from. Pick the Steel. Then, pick one or more pipes, individually, or with a crossing window at the end nearest to the joist. Press Enter.
Note: The steel does not have to extend past the pipe(s) selected. Pipes will be extended to the implied intersection between each line and perpendicular to the steel that was selected.
A section of pipe is added to each line so that the line now extends 6” beyond the joist.
A hanger is inserted with the properties specified in the Setup command.
A cap is inserted at the end of this pipe.
The inserted pipe is dimensioned with the diameter of the pipe to which it is connected. If there is no diameter on the picked pipe, then a “?” will be inserted.
