Used to insert a source point for the system water supply. You must have a water supply node inserted in order to perform a hydraulic calculation.

When you start the command, the following dialog box will appear:

Select from City water only, Pump only, or City and Pump.

If you have selected one of the City options, the City Water input area becomes active. Enter the values for Static and Residual pressures (PSI/Bar). Enter the Flow (GPM/LPM) at the residual pressure and the Elevation (in feet or millimeters) of the source point.

Enter a Reference Point name for the source point or leave the name as the default TEST.

If either of the Pump options is selected, the Pump input area becomes active. Enter a Pump Elevation (in feet or millimeters)and press the Pump Curve button.

Select your Pressure Units from the list.

You can either specify your pump by Rated Pressure, Flow and Churn Percentage or by Performance Curve points. If you want to use the Rated Pressure, enter the Pressure, Flow and Churn in the available fields and press the Make NFPA Curve button. This will populate the Pump Curve fields and create a Pump Curve.

Alternatively, you can enter the Pump Curve data directly from the manufacturer’s performance curves. Press OK to return to the Source Point Insertion dialog box.

There are a few rules to follow when inserting the source point and a pump:

  • The source point must be on the end of a pipe.

  • The source point cannot be at the intersection of two or more pipes, or at the same point as a riser nipple.

  • The pump cannot be at the same point as the source point.

  • If a pump is used with a city supply, then you will need to select unique points for both the pump inlet and pump outlet.

  • The pump inlet and outlet cannot be at the same point.

  • There can be no more than one source point on any drawing.

Here is a typical source point and pump arrangement. The source point, which is represented as a hydrant, is placed at the end of the underground pipe. The pump is placed between the source point and the main riser and the pump outlet on the downstream side of the pump. Note that the reference points are inserted as well as the symbols.

Adding a Pump will only let you select the pump curve once. If you need to change the pump curve, finish the command and start it again.
